This photo mesmerises me. The monkey, framed by the shrine, in front of it, conveys a sense of a "living statue", a kami taking visible form. The starkness of the snow and pale colours around are their own art, but at the same time frame the monkey and shrine. I can't properly convey the wonder this picture evokes to me. There's a thousand-yard-stare in the monkey's eyes, and still, it's so present.
