Surprisingly he was the only one I had seen on my trip. Anyhow it is really a funny coincidence to have found him in another picture I encountered him in Ueno ( and seemingly just 2 months after your photo)
Wow, that is crazy! There are a few other 'public figures' in Tokyo as well that crop up in people's photos, such as Hattori-san (the home less guy), the weird grimace guy, the old man dressed as a school girl, the one monk who really hates having his picture taken, and so on. I was thinking I should put together a 'bestiary' of sorts cataloging all these people.
heh one of these guys stands outside of Shinokubo station most days. I'm never sure whether I should give him money or not...I've heard so many stories about 'monks' asking for donations, but they're just scammers who pocket the money :/
The fake monks will usually give you a gold plastic card or other cheap looking charm. Then they actually ask for money. Real monks will just stand around with a bowl, praying or chanting. Like this guy.
Thanks! I've been here all along. I'm just posting mostly on tumblr. I reserve only my best work for DA so as not to flood it with the mediocre stuff. The good shots are few and far between. But I have a few in the pipeline in the next few days.
